Files from the cloud, jams from the heavens.

It's official. The groundhog devoured his key lime pie, and only these jams can keep you safe from the hot Mexican sun.

Movie Draft Pick

"The subject of the song is the arrival of the mighty Quinn (an Eskimo), who changes despair into joy and chaos into rest, and attracts attention from the animals. The metaphorical lyrics have prompted suggestions that Quinn is a village elder."

"Dylan himself has said that the title character refers to actor Anthony Quinn's role as an Eskimo in the 1959 movie The Savage Innocents."

Hello Summer

The big heads are out at the beach, it's summer. I've been waiting like 2 months to eat a key lime pie in a big tee or tank top, on a warm porch- I'll probably have a ginger beer (Goya) and rye (Overholt) and listen to songs like this.

Anyways, friends, Summer Internet is open for the season. Enjoy.

2001: Summer of the Shark

To kick off the jams this season, I turned up an old CD-R, with "Summer 2001" sharpied on top. Ten years ago I was 15 and made my first summer mix. Dudes got drivers licenses to drive to the frolf course and park at the liquor store. This was the mix on the discman/car adapter.
Mostly, I'll rep that teen.

they call him, little fred durst riding hood

Ben was trying to go to sleep- instead he played my favorite song. But we couldn't remember how it goes.
Here’s how Luna would play it:
I always thought Dean Wareham was saying, “please stop quoting Rodney King in your postcards.” As in, “can’t we all just get along?”

I'd boycott busses too if the car radio was this good!

Been driving through Alabama, Georgia, Florida and was impressed by the amount of songs on the radio talking about being in cars in those states (especially Alabama). Hard not to be bowled over by the specificity... but even harder to resist the wide-eyed earnestness. Example: I heard this song every hour by the Thompson Twins.

Don't they look more emo than you'd expect? Reminds me of the first time seeing a Carzy Town music vid.

Shredding for the Wedding

In Turkmenistan, a marriage is not deemed fit until the two families can mimic each other perfectly in song, style, and instrument. Maybe, probably not.

It's Time For...

This Loving rendition of Jonathan Richman from the cover of It's Time For...(1986) was made by Sam McKiniss (2009). Here are two songs from this hard to find album. The first is It's For You. The Mighty Mighty Boss-teens probably ironed their suits to it for a decade.

Ben was saying that Jonathan Richman Loves the Modern world- but I dunno. For the song, Roadrunner, that whole first album and the name of the bad, yes. But in every since Jonathan loved highways, and fast machines and super markets and neon moonlight and mass communications (big ups Boston radio)... he's been shunning the modern world. New fans that find Roadrunner and follow his career will find that his Modern Love dries, as early as 1963 (see poem from Having a Party). His nostalgia for modern ruins are charming, but I do wish he still loved the modern world.
